The AVISTA Smart Agent is a server based processor which run one or more analytics services. A service is an instance of an application (e.g., an assault, robbery, crowd gathering , left object etc.).

The Smart Agent receives XML metadata from the Smart Sensors, aggregates the incoming data and further processes the data to generate “intelligence”. The intelligent data can be correlated, fused with other sensor devices (i.e., event management systems, access control systems, E-911 systems, AVL systems, CAD/RMS etc..), stored in an SQL database or pushed to mobile devices and patrol units.

The Smart Agent allows users to easily and effectively add new applications services in a “plug and Play” manner without the need to upgrade any hardware and/or perform any major integration efforts. In addition, this approach increases network reliability by decentralizing services. If a communications link between the Smart sensor and the Smart Agent is severely degrades or fails completely, the Smart Sensor continues to operate as normal analyzing the scene.
